Update: Click here for Submission info!
It’s almost that time of year again! No, not Christmas… PITCH WARS TIME!!
And, once again, I’m a mentor! (For more info about what, exactly, Pitch Wars is, read Brenda’s post here) Submissions begin December 2nd.
Before I go into my bio and wishlist, I just want to point out that the author I mentored last year got a TON of requests on her entry and got an agent as a direct result of Pitch Wars. Just sayin’. 😉
My Bio
My credentials: I spent over a year and a half reading YA manuscripts for Liz Pelletier of Entangled Publishing, moved up to Associate Publicity Director of Entangled Teen, and currently work as Publicity Director at Entangled Embrace (our New Adult line). I also worked as Editorial Assistant at Entranced Publishing. I also blog at YAtopia, video blog at YA Rebels, and have three published (adult) books under the pen name Aria Kane.
My wishlist: I’m reading both Young Adult and New Adult submissions.
For YA: I love anything in any speculative fiction sub-genre: high fantasy, contemporary fantasy, sci-fi, steampunk, cyberpunk, anything-punk, magical realism, etc. I’ll take a look at contemporary stories too, as long as they have a strong hook. Historical and horror are not for me. Voice is very important. If you have a magical realism with a strong voice or a gender-swapped retelling, I’ll fight the other mentors for you Blake Shelton vs Adam Levine style!
For NA: Something different. I’d love to get more Spec-Fic NA out in the world! If it’s a contemporary romance of the friends-to-lovers or enemies-to-lovers variety, it better have a unique twist that sets it apart. I’m itching for an NA with a heroine working her first professional job. I’m more open to contemporary in NA than in YA, but am still not interested in historical or horror.
UPDATES:
- no rape/sexual abuse. I’m sure it’s wonderfully done, but it’s not right for me.
- YES! I want LGBT 🙂
